As part of our nonprofit mission to ensure every child loves learning math, we are committed to relentlessly improving our curriculum. We use data analytics and field research to improve the Zearn Math learning experience to reach all learners. Make sure to check the “What’s New” section of your Zearn Welcome Page and sign up for Zearn emails so you can be notified when updates are available in your account!
For the 2018-19 school year, we are publishing updates to our curriculum that:
Further enrich the problem solving experience for students.
Our curriculum and classroom model helps students visualize a problem, represent it in a variety of ways – including concretely, pictorially, and abstractly – and then solve. Students get precise feedback and support throughout their work, both digitally in Independent Digital Lessons and with their teacher in Small Group Lessons. For 2018-19, we are making improvements to G2 and G3 Digital Lessons to further enrich the problem solving experience. Specifically, G2 Digital Lessons will have updated Guided Practice experiences and we are adding G3 Lessons in G3M7. With these updates, there will be new versions of the Student Notes students use to complete the problems in Guided Practice and transfer their learning to paper. If you are planning ahead for next year and printing materials or purchasing workbooks, be sure to use the 2018-19 version of the Student Notes, which are available now to print through your Zearn account, or can be ordered in our Online Store.
Support teachers in preparing to teach each new concept.
This summer, we are launching new resources for teachers to help plan instruction for each Mission of the Zearn Math curriculum. All teachers will have access to new Mission Overviews, which outline the big ideas of the Mission and how the Mission connects to previously learned concepts. The Mission Overviews also outline the Independent Digital Lesson and Small Group Lesson sequence for each Mission, including which Lessons are optional and which Lessons can be used for enrichment. We are also launching a new professional development series available for purchase –Curriculum Study PD– which provides interactive PD sessions that grade-level teaching teams can use to collaboratively explore each Mission of our curriculum. Curriculum Study PD is delivered through Zearn’s digital platform and includes over 30 one-hour sessions designed for group learning. You can preview the interactive session for Grade 3 Mission 1 here.
Ensure Zearn continues to work towards supporting all students.
As part of our commitment to ensuring every child can access our curriculum, we are launching Closed Captioning on all our interactive videos and adding features so that all students in all grades will have audio prompts read aloud to them when needed.
