Omitted digital lessons

Why are some Digital Lessons omitted on Zearn?

Zearn Math digital lessons are designed to support all students in building deep, lasting understanding of grade-level math. When testing our digital platform with thousands of teachers and students, we learned that some concepts are better suited for collaborative discussions with teachers and peers. This could be for a number of reasons:

  • The lesson was predominantly a review of concepts covered in previous lessons,
  • The lesson introduced concepts that would be better taught with live instruction,
  • The math concept was more easily understood through the use of hands-on manipulatives.

In such cases, the lesson does not include an Independent Digital Lesson.

What do omitted Digital Lessons look like for students?

When students are moved past an omitted digital lesson, a card will appear in their Student Feed to let them know that they are skipping a lesson and moving on to the next lesson in the digital sequence. No action is needed from the teacher; the students will automatically be advanced to the next lesson in the sequence.
